Layered Fragments, Becoming Whole

Bodies

I threw them at you
My words
Sharp, stinging, blood thirsty
Cutting into you
Still
Your tongue remained flat
Measured restraint
Even in receiving
My erupting chaos

Why won't you let me push the pain a w a y

My core twisting in protest
I grabbed hold of it and held it
Until it went s t i l l
Tossed it into the sea
A dead body anchored in chains
My lips settling into a smile
I'm fine.

Breathe

Turning to walk away
I glimpse
A shadow f l o a t i n g
In rhythm with sleepy ocean waves at low tide
Heading back to shore

I stay
Tears falling
Softening into you
As you mold into the shape of my fire
With presence
Exhausted

I reach for you
A thin membrane, skin like
Pressing into the tension
Knowing you'll hold
Savoring the warmth

So close

So far
