Layered Fragments, Becoming Whole

It had nowhere to go, so I wrote it

I'll wrap you in powdered petals of peony,
tied with a piece of red silk string,
heat a small spool of wax,
tamp it down with my warm seal,
then
tucking you gently into the space
behind my ribs
where a steady beat echoes
into chambers flushed with blood,
holding you
with me
until my last breath
connects
into
the stream of rebirth.
