Layered Fragments, Becoming Whole

Cellar Doors

We carry multitudes, unbounded
As time moves - steady
Little treasure boxes appear for storage,
then the locks
Hiding bits of essence here and there

Dancing light facets in rainbow hues
Pragmatically sealed away
Buried deep like we never had them
Heart numbed, mind squared into logic
moving forward at a tremendous cost,
intentions blurring
Your promises became whispers in the wind
That I've somehow allowed, accepted

Only to reach in the dark one day, hopeless,
searching

Barrels of blotched grapes wasting,
film forming, milky from too much a i r
Then sitting,
ugly to look at, pungent waste
with no plans to go anywhere without s p i l l i n g
exhaustion l i n g e r s,
heavy shroud, weighted
a crushing ton,
chain and anchor
Sink it a l l to the ocean floor

From pirate ships to private slips to pyre spit

W i l d hands find a dusty box
Running wooly skin pads against a small lock
a click of release
Hushed,
To find dying stars, fading like sun beaten washi paper
you mourn a loss, filigree blades etched
you don’t yet understand
The dark grows more opaque
the cold sets in, a blessed formality
seeping tannins into other barrels of French oak
Signed Burgundy, Pinot noir
I whispered, shipped...

And your eyes glowed
Seething black ink boring into mine

You were never given a new set of keys

Locked out
