Layered Fragments, Becoming Whole

Watermarked in Tinsel

Bright Sanrio diaries
Pochacco’s floppy ears
to Morning Glory-
soft focus on Blue Bear
with a heart-shaped nose
stuffed haphazard in that polished
wooden cabinet
hidden behind college textbooks
breathing umbers
smolders

Decades

Sitting in the dark
collecting woolly snow
the scattered pieces of her

My nerves frayed, an inch
receded hand
still
Locked.

A little voice
“I promise, I won’t lie when I write again”
She did.
The spine coded
nine years old
restraint

It wasn’t
safe
shaped words spoken
on the inside

To this day
they take over my sunlight
